Dr Shirley Cooke Funeral Arrangements

The funeral of Dr Cooke is to take place:
At :   St Pauls Church Hooton   CH66 1QH
Commencing:  1200 noon
Date: Friday 7th September
 
(The church is almost opposite the Burleydam Garden centre  on the A41 at the border of Little Sutton and Childer Thornton.)
Please do dress as you feel most comfortable
Flowers:  Dr Cooke loved her flowers, but with roots as they lasted a lot longer.
Accordingly if you do wish to make a gesture, we would ask you consider a donation to her chosen charities:
The Hospice of the Good Shepherd and the
RNLI
Donations can be made at the church on the day or through W Williams & Son Funeral Directors in Little Sutton (please ensure you include a note making clear the donation is to Dr Cooke’s funeral charities)
After the service mourners are invited to join the family at Alfies Bistro in the village of Little Sutton   315 Chester Road  CH66 3RF.
There is ample parking at the church and the adjacent golf club car park
Also there is capacity in nearby streets, if parked with respect for the residents.

50th Anniversary

Photographs from the swim event are available on the ’50th Celebrations’ page.

The result from the swimming competition will be published to the website asap.

Look out for a write up about last weekends events in the local paper.

Volunteer Club Photographer vacancy!

The swimming Club are looking for a Volunteer Club Photographer:

Someone who has an interest in photography who would be able to attend club events and take photographs to be used in club promotional material, the club website and the local press.

The interested volunteer would need to be a club member and have an up-to-date DBS check.

The volunteer would need to be over 16 years of age.

Open Water Swimming 2018

As the open water season has now officially started, Swim England North West have arranged a varied line up of events. We thought we would share with you all the Open Water sessions that we have available this Spring/Summer for both swimmers & coaches.
 
·         Swim England North West are pleased to announce “Introduction to Open Water – Skills Sessions” for those new to the sport of Open Water on the 2nd & 9thJune 2018, at Helly Hansen Water Sports Centre in Salford Quays.
All swimmers must be aged between 12 and 16 and be a member of Swim England. The session will incorporate both theory and practical sessions and include the open water environment, a safety briefing and  acclimatisation.

·         Swim England North West are hosting Open Water Development Days for swimmers aged 12-16 years of age  on 3rd & 10th June 2018,  at Helly Hansen Water Sports Centre in Salford Quays.  This will be by invitation only based from the 800m and 1500m rankings following the Regional Championships which finish at the end of May. The day will include two open water sessions, land training and nutrition for distance athletes.
 
 
 
·         Swim England North West and North East Open Water Festival  is being held on 16th June 2018, at Helly Hansen Water Sport Centre in Salford Quays, which will also incorporate masters and county championships for Cheshire and Lancashire. Don’t forget to send your entries in before the closing date 4th June 2018. Click the link below to download the entry form.
 

Paul Shackley Bursary

This year the club have been fortunate enough to announce the start of a bursary. The bursary is sponsored by David and Paul Shackley who both swam at and for EPASC over the years along with other clubs in the area. They first swam at the old EPIC pool in 1970. Both swam competitively culminating in David representing Great Britain in long distance swimming including being part of a world record relay team for a two way channel swim whilst Paul swam for both Great Britain and England in Breaststroke and represented England in the Commonwealth Games.

David and Paul wanted to sponsor a young swimmer from their home town club to put something back into the sport that gave them so much.

David is now a senior vice president at Marriot International in Washington DC and Paul is the chief executive if Rushmoor Borough Council in Hampshire. The lessons learned in the pool including dedication, hard work, team work and the ability to bounce back from disappointments have without doubt helped them both to achieve in their careers.

The swimmer in receipt of the bursary this year is Connor Waterworth.

2018 AGM

Our 2018 AGM will be held on 7th March at Little Sutton Community Centre (next to the Bowling Green).

It will last for around 30 minutes and will be followed by drinks and light refreshments.

there will also be the opportunity to view the club’s scrap books of published pictures which have been featured in the Ellesmere Port Standard or Pioneer.

This is your opportunity to put your ideas and suggestions to the Executive Committee.

Land Training – Thursdays 7.00 – 8.00pm £2.50 per session

Saturday Morning Swimming – 8.00 – 9.00am £3.50 per session
